Following a series of critical comments about communications by the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), Rush partner, Peter Rose, was asked to lead one of the first Peer Reviews undertaken within the Government Information and Communications Service (GICS). The broad approach followed that mapped out for GICS Peer Reviews: a review committee drawn from PR professionals within and outside government; questionnaires to internal and external stakeholders; in-depth interviews with key stakeholders; discussion and review by the full committee and report drafting. Key recommendations were accepted with a subsequent considerable improvement of the reputation of CPS communications.
Department of the Environment, Food & Rural AffairsRush Communication undertook a review of the Department of the Environment, Food & Rural Affairs' Strategic Communications. The review included an online opinion survey of defra's stakeholders followed up with one to one interviews. The review was benchmarked across the wider defra family and other departments in Whitehall and used as one of its reference points the Independent Review of Government Communications presented to the Cabinet Office in January 2004 (the Phillis report). This advocated involving and managing stakeholders at an early stage in policy development and building in a communication plan to secure delivery, particularly if successful implementation would be largely dependant on voluntary compliance. |
